German auto sales gain 15 percent in February: VDA
German auto sales gained 15 percent in February from the same month a year earlier to 224,500 vehicles, figures released on Tuesday by the sector federation VDA showed.
The result confirmed a pick-up in the largest European automobile market, it added.
"We have every reason to be optimistic," a statement quoted federation president Matthias Wissmann as saying.
A 34 percent increase in domestic orders in February meant that "order books are full," he added.
The sector was on an upward trend in general, with support from positive developments in several foreign markets including the United States and Asia, the federation said.
Sales for the German auto industry as a whole gained 20 percent to 317 billion euros ($437 billion) in 2010, it added, and were expected to increase further this year.
The sector employed 711,000 people at the end of December, VDA said.
